It's sad to see poor people crossing the border treated like mice beneath an elephant's feet. It's even sadder to see the NYT continue playing ostrich about the US-Mexico issue and willfully ignoring the permanent solution of working to annex Mexico as 10 new states so that all 400+ million Americans can finally share the New World as one team under a 60-state U.S. Flag and the U.S. Constitution, E Pluribus Unum, Equal Justice for All, Rule of Law. The steps that need to be taken are laid out in my Megamerge Dissolution Solution Blog, which the NYT never mentions, keeping the readers in perpetual ignorance unless they find out about it on their own somehow.

How long until the MMDS is on the table and accepted by both major parties as the goal, with haggling limited to legal niceties, timing, phasing, and funding?
