It's sad that both parties are still stuck on stupid when it comes to the US-Mexico issue. $100 billion has already been spent securing the border, in vain, because it can never be secured. Instead, it's time to accept that Mexicans have a right to live in the New World too, and find a better way. For years I've been proposing the Megamerge Dissolution Solution, a phased plan to incorporate Mexico into the U.S. as 10 new states, allowing the border to expand to the Mexican coasts where it can finally be secured, while allowing all 400+ million Americans to freely mix so that the new states can be developed to the same level as the other 50. You can also call it the freedom solution. All that has to be dropped is 200 years of white supremacy and English supremacy in favor of freedom, peace, and E Pluribus Unum. Too bad, the press still won't even mention the idea.
