Yes, Rand Paul gave conservatives pause, until the Border Control came to Congress recently and told them that they aren't actually sealing the border.

Who is Salon kidding anyway? What they keep calling "immigration reform" is just amnesty for illegals so they can vote Democratic, which is a cop-out and doesn't begin to stop the flow or heal the real wound which is the very existence of the limping runt state of Mexico. But then neither does the expensive misguided attempts to seal the unsealable border. Only when the U.S. annexes Mexico can there be immigration reform, because the real illegal immigrants come from other continents, not from the New World, where they already live and have a right to stay. Right now Mexicans suffer from de facto apartheid that goes back 160+ years.

Let's say the U.S. has 60 states and the U.S. border is expanded to the Mexican coasts. The power of freedom will develop the 10 new states to the same level as the other 50, and make the U.S. stronger, freer, and happier than ever. Think of whole new cities on the coasts of New California and New Florida. At that point the 60-state U.S. can easily handle real immigration reform from overseas. Can the GOP handle tens of millions of new Mexican-American members? That's their problem and they should look in the mirror real long and get over it.
