Prior to 1986, Mexican border-crossers just wanted to get the heck out of corrupt backward Mexico, and never come back. A hardcore minority had dreams of a Reconquista, but that would mean giving California etc. back to Mexico, after which they'd likely want to skedaddle again. In other words, Mexicans love the U.S. and its Constitution and Bill of Rights, and will go through hell to live here.
That's why the Reagan amnesty was moose hockey, because it only gave a few coveted U.S. citizenship. All along the entire Mexican people should have tried to unite with both major parties in Congress to get accepted as 10 new U.S. states to permanently solve the problem, which has always been the corrupt Mexican govt., by scrapping it in favor of statehood conventions and new representatives in Congress. Today the same situation exists, yet neither party even mentions the possibility much less that it's the ONLY permanent solution.
Why? Hardcore leftists who coopt the media have this desire to hurt the U.S., and this idea would heal it. After all, it will be harder to be against a U.S. with 400 million-plus citizens, including 100 million plus Mexicans. Tough for them, but they should be cast aside by the center of the Democratic Party for everyone's good.
Hardcore rightists are stuck in the kaput white and English supremacy mindset of the 19th century. Tough for them too, and they should be cast aside by the center of the Republican Party for everyone's good.
Yes, everyone's good, because a 60-state U.S. will be better and happier in every way, and more able to compete with the ever-shrinking world of the 21st century. Imagine mass southward migration creating a New California and New Florida. Where would your kids rather live if given the choice?
Only I have a 7-step bipartisan plan to make it happen in just years, the Megamerge Dissolution Solution. Read about it on my blog:
