STAVER: Is there a moral approach to immigration reform? A nation of immigrants has an obligation to those yearning to breathe free
Yes, the U.S. is a nation of illegal WASP aliens who started out by committing genocide of the indigenous pop., reducing it to pockets of worthless land, and sealing the rest out in Mexico so they could invite their WASP relatives in from Europe. As the years went by, the original WASP invaders relaxed the rules and allowed Catholics and Jews in from Europe, but kept out everybody else. Only in the last few decades have Asians and Africans been allowed in large numbers. Meanwhile the original sin of Mexico festers, while writers like the above play ostrich. Still, we can't let the whole world move on in and swamp out everything we've built, but with Mexico they're already here, sharing the New World with us, and the only question is how.
Moral is as moral does. With Mexico, the answer for 200 years has been to drop the de facto apartheid 2K-mi. U.S.-Mexico border, and incorporate Mexico into the U.S. as 10 new states, letting the chips fall where they may. Guess what? The world won't end. It will actually make the U.S. bigger, stronger, and happier. Immigration from other countries can then be addressed honestly and, er, morally.
Only I have a plan on the table, which the media continue to ignore on purpose because they know they have no er, moral arguments against it, or any arguments of any kind, because it's the future. Why? Because if the U.S. doesn't annex Mexico, it's slowly annexing it. So why not take charge and be in control of the terms and conditions rather than let it descend into anarchy?
